Choosing the right outdoor LED screen
Pitch, brightness, ingress protection: the criteria that really matter for durable outdoor display.
An outdoor LED screen is not chosen like an indoor model. Brightness, measured in nits, must reach 5000 to 7000 to stay readable in direct sunlight, versus 800 to 1200 indoors.
Pixel pitch determines image sharpness. For a distant audience — facade, stadium, event — a 4 to 10 mm pitch is enough and lowers cost. The closer the viewer, the finer the pitch must be.
Finally, an IP65 rating is essential outdoors: it guarantees protection against dust and water. Also consider heat dissipation and front- or rear-access maintenance depending on the installation.
